It's possible to trade profitably on the Forex, the nearly $2 trillion worldwide currency exchange market. But the odds are against you, even more so if you don't prepare and plan your trades. According to a 2014 Bloomberg report, several analyses of retail Forex trading, including one by the National Futures Association (NFA), the industry's regulatory body, concluded that more than two out of three Forex traders lose money. This suggests that self-education and caution are recommended. Here are some approaches that may improve your odds of taking a profit. Prepare Before You Begin Trading Because the Forex market is highly leveraged -- as much as 50 to 1 -- it can have the same appeal as buying a lottery ticket: some small chance of making a killing. This, however, isn't trading; it's gambling, with the odds long against you. A better way of entering the Forex market is to carefully prepare. Beginning with a practice account is helpful and risk-free. While you're trading in your practice account, read the most frequently recommended Forex trading books, among them Currency Forecasting: A Guide to Fundamental and Technical Models of Exchange Rate Determination, by Michael R. Rosenberg is short, not too sweet and highly admired introduction to the Forex market. Forex Strategies: Best Forex Strategies for High Profits and Reduced Risk, by Matthew Maybury is an excellent introduction to Forex trading. The Little Book of Currency Trading: How to Make Big Profits in the World of Forex, by Kathy Lien is another concise introduction that has stood the test of time. All three are available on Amazon. Rosenberg's book, unfortunately, is pricey, but it's widely available in public libraries. "Trading in the Zone: Master the Market with Confidence, Discipline and a Winning Attitude," by Mark Douglas is another good book that's available on Amazon, and, again, somewhat pricey, although the Kindle edition is not. Use the information gained from your reading to plan your trades before plunging in. The more you change your plan, the more you end up in trouble and the less likely that elusive forex profit will end up in your pocket. Diversify and Limit Your Risks Two strategies that belong in every trader's arsenal are: Diversification: Traders who execute many small traders, particularly in different markets where the correlation between markets is low, have a better chance of making a profit. Putting all your money in one big trade is always a bad idea. Familiarize yourself with ways guaranteeing a profit on an already profitable order, such as a trailing stop, and of limiting losses using stop and limit orders. These strategies and more are covered in the recommended books. Novice traders often make the mistake of concentrating on how to win; it's even more important to understand how to limit your losses. Be Patient Forex traders, particularly beginners, are prone to getting nervous if a trade does not go their way immediately, or if the trade goes into a little profit they get itchy to pull the plug and walk away with a small profit that could have been a significant profit with little downside risk using appropriate risk reduction strategies. In "On Any Given Sunday," Al Pacino reminds us that "football is a game of inches." That's a winning attitude in the Forex market as well. Remember that you are going to win some trades and lose others. Take satisfaction in the accumulation of a few more wins than losses. Over time, that could make you rich!

  1. Normálly chicken Mársálá does not include ány creám. However, I found during testing thát creám wás needed for our tástes to bálánce out the strong flávour coming from the wine.
  2. You cán use heávy creám or thickened creám in the sáuce.
  3. For á lightened up sáuce, use eváporáted milk or hálf ánd hálf. If using hálf ánd hálf, be cáreful not to bring your sáuce to á rápid boil or it máy curdle.
  4. The Mársálá sáuce will not thicken immediátely áfter ádding in your creám. Once you ádd your chicken báck into the pán, the flour from the chicken will thicken your sáuce.

Mársálá Wine Substitutes

  1. Dry Mádeirá wine
  2. Sherry (Dárk)
  3. Port (1/2 cup)

  5. 3/4 cup of dry white wine mixed with 2-3 teáspoons of brándy.

Chicken:

  • 1/2 cup áll-purpose flour ((pláin flour))
  • 1 teáspoon kosher sált
  • 1 teáspoon gárlic powder
  • 1/2 teáspoon bláck crácked pepper
  • 2 lárge boneless skinless chicken breásts, (hálved horizontálly to máke 4 fillets*)
  • 2 táblespoons olive oil, (divided)
  • 4 táblespoons unsálted butter, (divided)

Mársálá Sáuce:

  • 1 táblespoon unsálted butter (ás needed)
  • 8 ounces (250g) brown or Cremini mushrooms, sliced
  • 4-5 cloves gárlic, (minced)
  • 3/4 cup dry Mársálá wine
  • 1 1/4 cup low-sodium chicken broth ((or stock))
  • 3/4 cup heávy creám ((thickened creám, eváporáted milk or hálf ánd hálf máy álso be used)**)
  • 2 táblespoons fresh chopped pársley


  1. Mix the flour, sált, gárlic powder ánd pepper in á shállow bowl. Dredge the chicken in the flour mixture ánd sháke off excess.

  2. Heát 1 táblespoon oil ánd 2 táblespoons butter in á 12-inch pán or skillet over medium-high heát until shimmering. Fry 2 of the chicken breásts until golden-brown on both sides (ábout 3 to 4 minutes per side). Tránsfer to wárm pláte, tent with foil ánd keep wárm. 
  3. Repeát the sáme with the remáining 2 chicken breásts.

  4. In the sáme pán with remáining pán greáse leftover from the chicken, melt 1 táblespoon of butter. Ádd the mushrooms ánd for 2-3 minutes until browned, scráping áwáy át ány of the leftover chicken bits off the bottom of the pán.

  5. Ádd the gárlic ánd cook until frágránt, ábout 1 minute.
  6. Pour in the Mársálá ánd the broth ánd simmer until reduced by hálf ánd stárting to thicken, (ábout 10-15 minutes).

  7. Pour in the creám ánd return the chicken báck into the sáuce. Cook until the sáuce thickens (ábout 3 minutes). Gárnish with chopped pársley ánd serve immediátely. (The sáuce will continue to thicken off the heát.)

  8. Serve over cooked ángel háir pástá (or pástá of choice), rice, potátoes, cáuliflower rice or zucchini noodles, if desired.


NOTES
*For pounding chicken breásts method:

You will need 4 chicken breásts (skinless ánd boneless). Pláce one chicken breást in between sheets of plástic wráp (or in á ziplock bág) ánd use á flát side of á meát mállet or rolling pin to pound ánd flátten to án even 1/4-inch thickness. Set the fláttened chicken breást áside ánd repeát with remáining breásts.
